cd and dvd problems

Hi
I am having a problem on my desktop. I have reinstalled windows xp and an additional HD. Now when I go to load a cd in the cd-rw or dvd-rw drives the computer just restarts. Is this bc the drives are assigned new letters than previous Windows xp installation. And how would I correct this. :confused:
