CD and DVD disappered plus microsoft office will not work

Rather strange... As mine pretty much did the same thing around October 16th.
I lost Both CD & DVD drives (virus??)

I tried for a couple days also to get it fixed, Finally gave up and took it
to the computer guy.

I had recently installed the DVD burner and had not changed the things on
the back correctly (They are VERY small) this one to Master (the CD is on
Slave).

But he said the actual cause was from a Norton issue - I had also that week
upgraded my 2007 antivirus to try the 2008.

He said he knew he could get it because I was able to boot in Safe mode
-(actually I could boot regular but was starting to have issues there Besides
the Drives)
Anyway he got it to stop or show one of the error's and it said to download
a tool from Norton and remove something. My computer is fine now - Though I
am on here tonight trying to figure out problems using WMM and Roxio - trying
to burn home movies and it just won't do what I want..LOL... nothing unusual.

Sorry I don't know the names of some things, but thought Maybe since we
both had part of the same issue The Same week.....

May I also suggest if you are not a computer geek, spend two or three hours
trying to fix someting and if you don't have it like you want it by then -
Give it up and take it in, You can not belive the Stress Relief. If your
like me you'll only do more damage----

Buddyorliz,

I am not one of those computer geeks, unfortunelly:) But after a week of
reading forums trying many things sometimes 2 or 3 times i finally got it to
work. I went to the device manager and unistalled both of them (this was the
second time I did this) and restarted... Poof they both reappear.. and have
been working fine(fingers are crossed) From there I was able to fix my
windows installer with the Windows XP disk.

Now I had to reload all of my updates and security patches on my slow @#$%
dial up. I left it running for 2 days and now I have 82 Updates that
downloaded but will not install.. If not one thing then it is another. Thanks
for your help, if it happens again I will keep your advise in mind.
