ccApp running at Shutdown - Norton Internet Security 2005

Georgia Llewellyn

I just installed NIS 2005 on my Win2K Pro system. Now when I go to shutdown
my PC I always get the "shutting down ccApp" that is still running. I know
it's part of the NIS app, but what is it? How do I make sure it's shutting
down properly? I've tried waiting several minutes after shutting OE6 down,
but the ccApp still runs at shutdown. Anyone?

Thanks.

Try removing NAV 2005 and then get a decent AV program. Try NOD32 or Avast. Avast is
free and NOD32 is a small footprint and a low cost alternative.

Norton stuff used to be good, back in 2001/2, but now is serious bloatware, and in
addition has that **really** annoying "verification" routine that only works around
75% of the time.

Norton stuff will have a serious and detrimental effect on your system in that its
overheads will slow your computer and cause a general sluggishness overall. Best to
avoid.

(I think they work on the principle that if NAV slows your machine enough, then any
virus/trojan will simply not have sufficient memory in which to run! Mind you, nor
will any other program!)

To the person who e-mailed me who had this same problem, this is what
Symantec says:

Hello Georgia,

Thank you for contacting Symantec Online Technical Support.

I understand from your message that when you shutdown your computer you find
ccApp is still running.

Georgia, this issue can be caused due to damaged files in the Windows
temporary folder, or due to conflicts with programs loading at Windows start
up. In order to resolve this issue, I recommend that you delete the Windows
temporary files, optimize the system resources on your computer, clean boot
the computer, and then check for the issue.

Please follow the steps provided below:

-To delete the Windows temporary files:

For assistance with deleting the Windows temporary files, please refer the
Online Knowledge Base document provided below:

Title: 'Deleting Windows temporary files'
Document ID: 2003102413414139
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2003102413414139
-To optimize the system resources on your computer:

Optimizing system resources helps your computer to run at peak efficiency,
to troubleshoot a problem with a Symantec product and want to make sure that
it is not caused by a system setting.

For more information on how to perform basic optimization of system
resources on your computer, please refer to our Online Knowledge Base
document provided below:

Title: 'Basic guide to optimizing system resources'

- To perform a clean boot of Windows 2000.

A clean boot is a restart of Windows with no programs running and with as
few extra drivers loading as possible. Drivers are software extensions to
Windows that allow it to configure and interface with other pieces of
software and hardware. Extra drivers are often installed by programs that
are installed after the initial installation of Windows 2000.

To perform a clean boot you need to perform the following steps:
1. Edit the registry to prevent extra programs from starting when Windows
loads
2. Remove all shortcuts from the Startup folders and then restart your
computer
3. Close any running programs

For instructions on how to do this, please refer to the following document
from our Online Knowledge Base that has instructions you need to follow:

Title: "Configuring Windows 2000 to clean boot"
