Cause of outlook 2003 hanging - outlvba.dll

I have just disabled the outlook addin outlvba.dll and it seems to have
cured my hanging problem.

Does anyone know what this does?

It's the addin for Outlook VBA. Maybe you have a corrupt VBAProject.OTM code
file. Try renaming it , then reenabling the addin.

Thanks though the hanging is back. This is really frustrating and
sometimes Outlook 2003 hangs on a specific email message. I will start
another thread.

Please do not start another thread. Did you follow the steps I suggested? Is
this the same hang or some other symptoms? Does it occur when you start
Outlook in safe mode? When you disable all add-ins?

In fact even with that ad-in disabled, the hanging started up again.

I was given advice to create a new profile, so I did that and set up 2
of my pop3 accounts, and Outlook 2003 is now stable. But, I have two
problems now:

1. I would like to use my original pst file

2. I have lost some email messages, and ideally I would like them back

So, I am beginning to think the solution is a new profile, and import my
original mail file, and recreate all my email accounts.

Any tips on this approach, and thanks for your time.

1) Try using File | Open to access the old .pst file, then copy the items
you need into the new one. You can also use File | IMport and Export. The
old file may have been corrupt; if the new profile with a new file is
stable, stick with it.

2) Symptoms? In other words, what evidence is there that they're lost?

I did a bit of testing today, and created a new profile, and my Outlook
PST files are now:

outlook.pst Original Outlook XP pst 453MB
outlook1.pst The pst Outlook 2003 created 521MB
outlook2.pst The pst from the new profile 1MB

When I set up the new profile, I set the accounts to leave pop3 messages
on the server, and switched to my old profile to download email into
Outlook1.pst.

I then went into Control Panel - Mail, set outlook1 as the default pst
for receiving mail, and then removed the outlook2.

So now I have the new profile, but only using the outlook1.pst. And all
seems to be stable. I now download and do not leave pop3 mail on the
server.

I know I have lost some emails because I received some, and filed them
in a folder, and they are now gone, and I did not delete them :)

So, any comments on what I have done?

I have a few questions:

1. Is what I have done reasonable, comments?

2. What does Outlook MVP mean?

3. Any ideas on how I can get my missing emails?

When Outlook crashed, I had to close the process, and I guess I have
lost some of my mail :-(.

Finally, thanks for your help....much appreciated.

1. Is what I have done reasonable, comments?

Yes, there's no reason you can't reuse an existing PST file when you create
a new profile. The steps to do so, unfortunately, are not easily
discoverable.
2. What does Outlook MVP mean?

MVPs help other users of Microsoft products use those products better. You
can read more about the program at Microsoft's web site.
3. Any ideas on how I can get my missing emails?

Try opening the leftover .pst files with the FIle | Open | Outlook Data File
command.

Well it was a bit of trial and error.
MVPs help other users of Microsoft products use those products better. You

Read about it now, thanks, and you all provide a very useful service to
users.

Unfortunately my old pst files are too old, but never mind, all is now
stable and working well.

So, for any other Outlook 2003 users who have hanging or instability
problems, I recommend creating a new profile and recreating all email
accounts.

Thanks again :)
