Catalyst Control Panel vs driver only

For my card and OS at least, ATI seems to make available both a full
CCP suite and a lightweight driver-only package. While I normally get
the full CCP package, I don't really use it, and it seems to put a
pretty big dent in my system startup time (the ATI tray menu is always
the last thing to come up and it takes forever). So I was wondering,
does the CCP package actually let you do something that isn't
otherwise possible with the driver + registry tweaking? That is, is
the CCP merely a nice-looking frontend or does it actually give you
enhanced functionality?

The only time I've actually used the CCP is to play with dual monitor
setups, but it looks like I can do this from the Windows display
properties just as easily.
