Carlings Light Font

D

Dano

Is it just my configuration or are other Windows XP users
unable to use the Carlings Light font? If they are able
to use this font, what setting needs to change to use
this font. Everytime I try to install this font
Car255.tff, I receive an error message that claims the
font is damaged. It works fine on my Win2000 machine but
not my XP machine.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

XP is justifiably more particular about the fonts it allows to be
installed. Many older fonts are missing some key tables or have some
other failing.

If you have access to alt.binaries.fonts, you can either post the font
there to be fixed or, if it's a fairly common font, someone will post a
working version for you.

Although this problem occurs most often with shareware and freeware
fonts, there are also commercial fonts that exhibit the symptoms; some
even from a major font foundry.

BTW - The Carlings fonts are part of an old ATEC group, all of which
have problems under XP. There are much better blackletter fonts
available, both free and commercial.

In fact, they're so bad that the three fonts, Carlings, Carlings Light,
and Carlings Heavy have nothing to do with each other. Carlings and
Carlings Light are two different blackletter fonts, while Carlings Heavy
is a brush-calligraphy style.
