Capture PC screen as video

My problem:

I have created a 3D-animation that I would like to capture into a video
format, e.g., avi or mpeg-2. The reason is that I want people with relatively
low performance graphic cards to be able to watch it.

Can I use Windows Movie Maker for this purpose?

Thanks

You can use Windows media Encoder for this purpose.

However for best performance you may be better off with recording the
screen using your camcorder and then capturing from it afterwards.

What 3D Software did you use. Most do have a means to export the output
in a movie format anyway.
