Capture Mpeg-2 from Sony Handycam

I recently bought a Sony DCR-SR 45 HandyCam 30gig HD 40x Telephoto. I
attempted to import a movie into WMM, but it refused to import it,
something about firing off of too many pins (?). I then attempted to
convert it to a wmv using Windows Decoder, but it was not able to
convert. I then used the Sony software PMB to convert, which it did,
but the product was very substandard.

Is there a workaround for this issue. I can't use the result from PMB
and I can't get it converted to wmv any other way. Help!
