Caps lock driving me mad

When I turn on caps lock, I get a message in the bottom right corner saying CPAS LOCK: ON or OFF (same with NUMLOCK) etc. I haven't changed anything and don't know how to get rid of it. Very annoying....how do I fix it and why did it happen

If you are using multimedia keyboard, you may have installed a driver.
The functions maybe normal, I like it...

I believe this would be an OEM specific enhancement. Look in Help and
Support under your OEM help files for info.

Cassie, or anyone else:

I too just starting experiencing this issue. The only things that have
changed were an update to XP SP2 and an update of a Bluetooth driver. I
searched for this item on the SP2 site and did not see any indication of it.

Have you been able to determine what is causing it, why, and how to disable?

This is usually caused by software that came with your keyboard. Uninstall
it and it may just fix your problem. The downside of uninstalling such
software is that some specialized keys may not work properly. Standard keys
will not be effected.

I do not see any special software that appears to control the keyboard. It
uses standard MS driver. It never was an issue pre SP2 installation?

Pavel,

I am unable to see any specific keyboard drivers that are loaded. According
to Device Manager I am using a standard MS driver for the keyboard? Any
other suggestions? I suspect there is a special driver because the laptop
keyboard has many Fn key buttons for controlling volume, CD player controls,
access to IE, etc. But, I cannot see it.

I have the answer. It was a Bluetooth driver (of all things). Here is a
copy of the e-mail from Widcomm that I received moments ago.

This is an enhancement in the Bluetooth software. If you want to disable
this then you can do the following:

1. Start the Registry editor (Start -> Run menu option, type regedit,
click OK button)
2. Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\BTConfig\General registry
key.
3. Set reg key, KeyIndication = 0, should currently be set = 1
4. Then log off and log on.
