Can't write my video to DVD

My objective is to archive my home videos onto DVD. I have a Sony 8 mm
Camcorder, several years old now. I just purchased a Sony Computer with
Windows XP movie maker. The hardware came complete with the RCA jacks for
input from my camera. I can download my home video to my hard drive, but it
will not let me write that information to a DVD. I have the same problem
with the Sony "Click to DVD" software. With the Sony software I get a very
plain "there's a Error" message. With the windows software the message
relates the problem to the "codec". What do I need to do?

I'm sure there must be an easy fix to this. It's probably operator error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ed

As you capture analogue material it will depend on the file format you are
allowed to capture in by the programme you are using. For ease of use you
may want to consider spending some more money on an analogue to digital
convertor, see http://www.simplydv.co.uk/reviews.html for reviews on some.
As always the more expensive are better, like canopus, which will keep the
audio/video in sync, which sometimes the cheaper ones don't.
