Can't view the email?

When I do a search in outlook, I cannot view the email but get a
message in the
reading pane that says "This item cannot be displayed in the Reading
Pane. Open the item to read its contents". When I try to click on the
e-mail in the adjacent panel, it says "can't open this message".

If I clear the search and then manually find the e-mail, it displays
just fine in the reading panel. And I am able to delete emails.

The problem has something to do with the search. Any advice on a
solution to this issue?
