Can't uninstall MSAS

I have a problem with MSAS: when I try to schedule a scan for a p.m. hour it
sets it as an a.m. hour, e.g., if I try to set it for 23:00 it is set for
11:00 A.M. If I try to set it for 22:00 it actually shows as 112:00 A.M.

I’ve switched off system restore.

I’ve tried to uninstall and reinstall but it doesn’t seem to be uninstalling.

Basically, looked in the Help section, says to use Add/Remove. Done that,
manually deleted MSAS folder in C:/Programs, gone in to system32 and deleted
gcCollection.dll, gcUnCompress.dll, hashlib.dll - no joy. When I try to
re-install it takes about 2 seconds. Being on dial-up, this can’t be correct.

I’ve tried uninstalling in Safe Mode, I get a message, “Windows Installer
Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in Safe Mode
, or if Installer is not correctly installedâ€.

I’ve tried the Windows Install Cleanup program.

Nothing seems to make any difference.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Mike - you're going after a gnat with a sledgehammer.

The time issues you are seeing are due to a pair of bugs which have easy
workarounds.

Please turn System Restore back on.

I'm not sure what to say about your uninstall/reinstall results, except that
they don't seem strange to me--the Windows Installer maintains the program
source on your system--so it doesn't have to be downloaded each time.

the time bugs you are seeiing will be fixed in beta2 which will be out by
year end, we expect. Here's the scoop on them, though:

1) if the scheduled scan is set to 10 AM, it will display as 112:00 am.
This has been true since the first beta version back in January. It is
absolutely harmless--the scan happens at 10 AM.

2) If your locale uses a 24 hour time format, you cannot set scheduled
scans for afternoon times. Workaround: Set your language setting to English
(United States)--this locale has a 12 hour time format by default. Then set
the scheduled time.

After the schedule is set, you can reset your language setting to its usual
setting, and the scan will remain scheduled in the afternoon.

I know that these time-related bugs may give pause about the reliability of
the program, but: This is the most popular Microsoft download ever--at least
18,000,000 copies are in regular use--getting updates. There are a number of
minor appearance-type bugs, and these should all be fixed in the beta2
release which is expected to be released before the end of the year.
