I just changed my mobo/cpu/hd and reinstalled XP Pro. I set up two
accounts - USER with admin rights and HOME with limited rights. I have XP
configured to auto boot/logon to the HOME account.
All went very well and I then installed Office and Norton SystemWorks. The
system turnoff/shutdown/restart worked fine. My 16 yr old kid went on the
pc and did a few things including dl AOL IM. I saw a few extra dektop icons
after my son left the pc. I am always wary when he gets on my pc so
decided to do a System Restore to a checkpoint identified by installing
Norton SystemWorks.
The restore worked but now when I do START/Turn Off Computer the pc does not
log HOME off nor does it shutdown the pc. Likewise when I do RESTART it
does not restart the pc. When I LOG OFF/Switch User from HOME to USER this
works fine. However when I try to LOG OFF/Switch user back from USER to
HOME it does not switcg back. I tried shutting down from USER and that
doesn't work either.
Thoughts on what might be corrupted/wrong?
Is there a way to do a pseudo-reinstall/system file verification or
something?
Thanks for your assistance.
