can't start excel.

hi, I'm experiencing some problems at the startup of excel

when I try to open a random .xls document, it comes up with an error,
I can try to push the okay button, but that only makes the error re-apear so
I can't quit excel again, unless I use the task manager.

the wierd thing is that I can open excel trough the start bar, it'll then
tell me that it didn't open right the last time, and ask me if I want to go
in "safe mode", if I say yes it'll go to the "safe mode" and everything works
fine if you "-> file -> open"

the same thing happens if I say no on the "safe mode" question, it doesn't
get an error then, so basically it's only happening when I try to open a
excel document without opening excel first.

any suggestions?

In Excel, go to Tools|Options and on the General tab, untick "Ignore other
applications"
