If you tell us the part of your email address after the @ symbol we may be
able to help you with the settings David B. mentioned.

I'm having the same problem. My desktop at home has Vista-64 and I use 2-3
e-mail addresses, and I never had Windows Mail show itself. Now, I also have
a new Lenovo laptop with Vista-64, and Windows Mail seems to block the
sending of any photos. I can send/receive text with @gmail.com, @comcast.net
and @yahoo.com. But, unlike on my home desktop, I cannot send photos via
Microsoft or from Lightroom2. Windows Mail pops open a message box telling
me my POP and SMTP settings are wrong. I had typed in what listed as the
settings, but apparently these are incorrect or not sufficient. I had
assumed user error on all this, but from the number of posts about Windows
Mail, there may be a software error as well. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

It's not a software error. It's just that users who grew up with web mail
fail to realize that desktop POP/SMTP mail is a little more complex
to set up. You must obtain the correct settings for that from your mail
service provider. For example for a Gmail account the POP/SMTP
settings are here:

Ummm . . . . . this is a bit confusing, contains none of the error messages
(copy / paste), and fails to mention what email is not working ("Microsoft"
is not an email provider). What does "I never had Windows Mail show itself"
mean? It didn't open on your PC and you were only using webmail?

Can you please copy / paste all error messages and provide the part of the
email addresses after the @ symbol so we can help you set up <all> of your
email addresses correctly in WM.

Do not change the subject in an ongoing thread.

Start a new thread with a short subject and then ask the question in the body of
the message.

Here's the answer to your question, which I found using a simple Google search:

How to Access an AOL Email Account with Windows Mail
http://email.about.com/od/windowsmailtips/qt/et_access_aol.htm

If that link doesn't solve your problem, contact AOL.com or search Google for
another answer.
