cant setup internet

im trying to connect my new xp home pc to the internet, i
tried two modems i had on hand, and even went out to buy
one and tried it, i tried to use the connection wizard,
but it wont let me select dialup. my modem shows up in the
mosems list, but not when i try the network connection
wizard, only my lan and firewire show.

also on my 98fe box im having having problems getting the
display to stick

I dont know what "modems list" you are talking about, but in both
instances it seems you are NOT installing the drivers for your cards.

had same problem after running xp repair from cd. Go to
administrative tools and then to services and make sure
there is nothing that is disabled. Don't remember for
sure what services it was but there were several services
that were not starting up like they were supposed to due
to system errors or files they could not find.(services
like rpc, and telephony, and internet connection) If you
open event viewer under administrative tools and check
for system errors this might give you a clue to what
services are not startimg. Hope this helps.
