Can't set Up Outlook 2000 Profile in Control Panel/Mail

C. Neal McGuire

I've installed a lot of e-mail profiles both with Exchange
servers and without but I've never seen this type of
installation problem.

The PC that I'm working on had MS Office Pro set up on it
by someone but the enduser continued to use Outlook
Express as their primary mail program. The user's OS is
MS98 SE

I was asked to set up a profile for MS Outlook but when I
went to set up a profile in Control Panel/Mail, the e-mail
properties window that popped up was for Outlook Express
not the regular e-mail properties window. In addition,
the user's Express profile is already working in Outlook
but I can't add any additional add-ins like the personel
address book, fax etc. because of the limited capabilities
of an Express profile to add optional features.

Is their some corrupt file that is causing this? Is there
some file I could download from the Windows 98 SE or
Office install disk that would allow me to get back the
normal e-mail properties window??

Thanks in advance,

CNM

It sounds like Outlook is running in IMO (Internet Mode Only) mode. Try
this:

1. Switch to Corporate Workgroup (CW) mode using the steps in the following
article.

195507 OL2000: Switching from One Installation Type to Another
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=195507

2. Go back to the Mail control panel.

The properties window should now allow you to configure the necessary
services.

Hope this helps.
