Can't set home page on IE6 or type web addresses

This problem began yesterday (6/6/04), I've done a full
system sweep with Norton 2004 with no solution to the
problem.

The home page is set to "http://searchpage.cc/1529/" and
I cannot change it. Furthermore I can no longer type a
web address in the address bar, I have to go to either
the google bar or yahoo bar I have installed.

It happens on all 4 accounts I have set up on this XP
machine.

Sounds like a virus or adaware/syware??? anyone have a
clue????

Sounds like virus. Try download adaware or some another of this kind of program and use it to full scan your system. Or try locate your reg to check the key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main to check if the default key is being checked

Gar
P.S: Suggest to use program for scanning your system. I'd exp that the key still being changed even I'd changed the key I mentioned at above.

My wife just tells me she opened a 'funny looking e-mail'
this weekend !!!!!!!!!!

I've searched around and this has fixed it....

1. Download uninstaller http://searchpage.cc/uninstall.exe

right click and choose "Save target as.." from pulldown
menu

2. Run it

3. Reboot your PC

4. Run it second time

5. Change your start page to "about:blank" in the IE
settings (Tools -> Internet Options)

6. Click "Start" -> "Run" -> regedit

7. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\

8. Select key {FF1BF4C7-4E08-4A28-A43F-9D60A9F7A880} and
delete it.

Thanks Gary, this one was a sneaky one as when you try to
go to a web address it defaults back to the search
engine. Not sure if deleting the HKEY would have worked
as I fixed it with the stuff I posted a short while ago.

thanks anyway !!!
