I'm also having the same problem. I'm on Gmail and followed the instructions
in the link below, but to no avail"

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=77696

PS - when I try to send an email, this is the message that pops up:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'imap.gmail.com', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Thank you for any help you can provide

You didn't follow all of the instructions in that link...
Make sure you change the port numbers and check SSL, in Step 7.
and click on OK.

Don't assume that your issue is identical to someone else's.
Do you get an error message when you try to send or receive? If so,
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

I made the correction on comcast..net on the server info page in accounts
and when trying to resend I get this error now...
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was.... . Subject 'Fw: This is Fascinating!',
Account: 'James', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '550 5.1.0 <> domain missing or malformed', Port: 587, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
I removed the e-mail address that was inserted in the error message.

It looks like there may have been a typo in the recipient's email address.
You should have left that email address in the error message, but
simply X out the part in front of the @ symbol.
Are you able to send to other recipients including yourself?
