Can't send messages

Hi guys, seems a lot of people have this problem. I am using Horde as my mail
server (from Control Panel). I am using Vista basic on a new laptop. Can
receive mail no problem, have set settings in accordance with instructions,
including 'server requires authentication' as required, but still no go on
port 25. I use AVG (not Norton or McAffee), any suggestions?

Adenda from Beau (Error message I receive):

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Sadly ... Beau can't make
it!', Account: 'Gaia Australia', Server: 'mail.gaia.net.au', Protocol: SMTP,
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I don't understand your reference to "Horde", or what it has to do
with Control Panel.

With regard to the error message, gaia.net.au is not an ISP.
Most ISPs do not allow their customers to make a port 25 SMTP
connection to a 'foreign' (non-owned) SMTP server.
I recommend you use your ISP's SMTP server instead.

I'm also unable to send any messages. They just piled up in my outbox folder.
I was able to delate these messages except one which remains and try as I
might it will not delate. When I try to read this message it comes up as
Message could not be displayed. Vista came with this new computer and if I
have anymore problems it will be asta la vista and XP will make a speedy
return.

Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista

It also works on other folders.
