Can't send gmail

Hello all

I cannot send email from outlook 2003 using my gmail account.(Receiving is
OK)
All my settings are correct. The gmail troubleshooter returns no problems.
The test server settings show all ok, so I know it can reach the servers. My
other accounts in outlook work fine.
I have setup a gmail account in Outlook Express and it works fine. I have
tried setting up a gmail account in outlook on another machine, and that
doesn't work either.
There is obviously something in outlook that is preventing gmail mail from
sending.
Does anyone know what?

Thanks.

Nope - sends OK here....check the settings VERY VERY carefully, including
the port number.....

Make sure that box for SSL is checked and port is 465 in advanced
settings. Make sure that log in using (SPA) is unchecked. Make sure
that server requires log in is checked with email address and password
included. I am using 2003 and works just fine. Gmail just requires
some unusual combinations for smtp.

Thanks guys.
I have tried all the obvious things like port numbers etc.
In desperation I have even installed Eudora and Thunderbird trying to find
an alternative to outlook. Although gmail works ok in them, they don't seem
so good as outlook. (Didn't think I'd be saying that about an MS product)!

I have tried turning off my firewall but that doesn't do it.
Sometimes the report I get says it can find the server but no response.
I'm now pulling out what little hair I have left.
