Can't send email

As with some other posters, there is someting wrong with the send function in
Windows Mail. I am running McAfee, but this version is compatible with Vista.
I had no problems until today when I could not send a particular email
message. That message remains in my outbox, and I can not delete it. When I
try to send another email, it stays in my outbox as well. I can delete that
message from the outbox, but I can not delete the original message. When I
try to send either the original or any additional emails, the following
appears: "The message could not be sent. An error has ocurred". If I try to
move the original message, I get: "The message can not be moved. An error has
ocurred". I was able to mark it as read, however, but that's all I can do
with it. I feel confident that if I can only get this one message out of my
outbox, I will be able to send email again. As I said, the program has been
working perfectly for months with McAfee running, so I can't see any
connection there.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

McAfee wants your money enough to have strange ideas about what
working properly with Vista means. So do Norton and Trend. They
seem to think that not causing problems immediately is enough, even
if they tend to cause problems later. For many other antivirus
software vendors, turning off email scanning is enough to stop
causing new problems with Windows Mail, although it often doesn't
stop previously caused problems.

This fix usually takes care of messages that refuse to delete:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Download and install it with Windows Mail not running. Although
it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in other
folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Remember where
to find the fix if you keep McAfee - you're likely to need it again.

941090 solved the symptom. The problem is McAfee.
Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.
