can't send an email get error connection to server was interupted

i have an email account with btinternet.
i can revieve but I can't send, the message just stays in the outbox.
when i open the message to send it it fails again.

i get the error message
task mail.btinternet.com - sending reported an error 0x800ccc0f the
connection to the server was interupted if the problem persists contact your
isp.

BT helpdesk don't support outlook. i have the settings correct. I also have
norton internet secuity and when that is disabled i can send.

I presume I have to change something in norton but don't know what.

Have you checked Symantec's site to see if they have any info about your
issue? Definitely sounds like an issue with one of their products....
