Can't Select Text in Word 2007 / Vista

I have the most perplexing problem - When opening or creating a next text
document in Word 2007 (part of Office 2007), I cannot select any text with
the mouse - I can select text with the arrow keys + shift, but not the
mouse. I can select menus, and use the mouse cursor on other parts of word,
but not on the document. Also when I click on the office button, and choose
Word Options (thought I may look there), I cant choose any of the categories
on the left - I cant "checkmark" and change things on the choice pane, but
not change categories. This is only in Word - other office products installed
ie Excel and PP work great with the mouse, but not Word. I have tried other
Mice, downloading new drivers from logitech and MS, but it WILL NOT WORK. I
am about to go insane - can anyone help - PLEASE!

I know that sometimes people put off activating till the last minute. That
was what I was wondering. I think Siggy might have something though. ;0)

Did you solve your issue? I can not select text or use any mice in
Word 2007. I have tried reinstalling the software and both Mice
drivers. I have an IBM T42 laptop with the UltraNAV mouse track wheel/
touchpad.

I can not even use another USB mouse.

Well I am glad to know there is someone else in the world with thiss issue
besides me - I thought I was the only one - No, no resolution yet - I am
contemplating wiping the whole PC (not my first choice) - I have googled till
I am blue in the face and there is nothing out there about it - It is only in
Word - Not Excel, PP or Access, only Word - all the other ms apps work fine -
there has got to be fix for it.

I'm glad I've spotted this message. Does anyone else have this problem. I've
also been searching for an answer as I've got a very similar problem - only
difference is its on a PC where I've just installed Office XP (thats 2002) +
SP3, on Windows 98 - and it's supposed to be compatible.

It only appears to affect Word. I cant do anything with the mouse within the
document - menus are fine. But with my problem it only happens after the
first document Save - it's all OK 'til then. I have to close Word and reopen
it for the mouse (or tablet) to work with cursor positioning and selection.

Any ideas please? Has this been raised before?

I have the same problem. Word 2007, vista home premium on a new T60p lenovo.
everything worked fine for a few weeks then suddenly this problem.

I also could not resolve this with restore functions. $ restore points would
not complete any restore.

So if anyone has an approach please respond.

Thanks

I have had the same problem also with Word only. I cannot find the solution
anywhere. I have tried what you suggest but it did not help. Can anyone help?

Thanks. Nada

I followed the steps listed exactly as found in '[Word 2007] Mouse
Doesn't Work (i.e. Can't Highlight Text)..' (http://tinyurl.com/yscrfv)
and that took care my Word 2007 problems which were (1) Could not select
text, (2) could not select any "Word Options" other than the default
"Popular" button, (3) Word 2007 crashing on exit. The other thing it
fixed, which might be unique for my situation, was that every time I
would have my Word session full-screen and having it crash on exit, the
next session would be a window taking up about 1/3 the screen. Now my
sessions begin at the same window size as I exited with. More than
likely this problem was the result of an "ungraceful exit" fromWord at
some time in the recent past.

Thank you for saying you found the answer. I needed to hear that someone has
solved the problem. I have been working on the problem for 2 days now with
no success. I went to your link and read the information, but I'm just a
novice and need more specifics like: step 1, step 2 etc. Can you help?
Thanks
