Can't see other PC on workgroup using firewire

Hello
I have given two pcs the workgroup name 'network'. I restarted each machine
and then connected them via firewire. I go to network places on each pc, but
can't see the other machine. However, on PC A, I can see that PC; on PC B, I
can see that PC. I just can't see PC A on PC B, and vice versa. The odd thing
is that I did the same a couple of months ago and I had no problem.... I have
tired rolling back each PC to those dates, but this still doesn't work.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks
Steve

In my experience, network browsing through My Network Places is
inherently unreliable, and I recommend not using it. You can spend a
lot of time troubleshooting it, but I don't think it's worth the
effort.

To access another computer directly, without using My Network Places,
type the other computer's name in the Start > Run box in this format:

\\computer

To access a shared folder directly, type the computer name and the
folder's share name in the Start > Run box in this format:

\\computer\share

You can also create a desktop shortcut to the another computer or
shared folder specifying the location of the item as:

\\computer

or

\\computer\share

If your computers are connected to each other using both Ethernet and
FireWire, access the other computer by typing the other computer's
FireWire IP address in the Start > Run box in this format:

\\address

Hi Steve

I have tried this, but I am told: 'The network path was not found'. The two
pcs are definitely connected. The icon in the task bar states: 'connected',
and I can see that there has been a little activity.

Thanks

You're welcome. Here are some other things to try:

A. Make sure that any firewall is configured to allow access by other
computers on the FireWire IP address range.

B. Try accessing the other computer using its IP address, as I
suggested above.

C. Make sure that NetBIOS Over TCP/IP is enabled on the FireWire
(IEEE1394) connections:

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right click the FireWire connection.
3. Click Properties.
4. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
5. Click Properties.
6. Click Advanced.
7. Click WINS.
8. Click the Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button.
