Can't see entire window

I'm having a problem with my new XP computer, which has integrated
video (ATI Radeon Express 200). In the process of browsing the web,
or going into a chat function, a window will come up the bottom of
which I can't see, and there is no way to move the window so that I
can see the entire window. This is particularly a problem if the
part I can't see is the line where you type in chat text.

On my 98SE computer, in every case, the same window is fully visible
at the same resolution.

It's as though Windows, or the ATI driver, or the video "card", is
wrongly calculating how much verticle space is available. The
status bar in IE and the XP task bar are both fully visible, and the
screen as a whole is fully visible on the monitor, but in XP the
window being viewed just doesn't fit vertically. Part of it, at the
bottom, is covered up. As I said, everything fits perfectly on my
old 98SE computer.

Can anyone suggest how I might fix this? I've tried changing the
DPI settings, and the refresh rate, all to no avail. What else
can I try? And, if anybody knows, what would cause this?

I can post a screen capture that illustrates the problem, but I
don't think I can do that in this newsgroup, and I don't have a
website. If someone could suggest a binary group, I could post it
there.

Thanks for any help.

You can post it here as an attachment and we will see it.

Have you tried a different browser, say, Firefox?

Look in the display properties specific to the ATI video.. sometimes, there
is a setting (checkbox) to prevent windows from opening off screen..

I tried to post the screen caps, but the server wouldn't accept
them. So, I'm going to post them to the newsgroup:

Ok, the plot thickens. I'm going to attempt to post a
screen capture showing the problem I'm having. If it works,
I'll post both the 98SE version, which is ok, and the XP
version where the bottom of the window is covered up.

The screen caps show the entire screen in each case.

In this example, it's a web chat window operating in a Java
applet, and on comparing the 98 and XP versions, I see now
that the XP version has an extra IE (or Java) status bar at
the bottom which the 98 version doesn't have. And that
status bar covers up the bottom part of the screen.

I'm trying to remember now whether the other instances when
this has happened have also involved Java applets, and that
may in fact be the case. I'm just not sure.

If anyone wants to test this on their own system, you would
need to:

set screen to 800x600

turn off popup blockers

go to http://www.webcamnow.com

click on "View Webcams" at the upper left

click on "Videochat PopUp Version"

pull down and select "Friends and Family"

Anyway, it appears what I need is an IE or Java setting that
will do away with the unwanted status bar.
