Can't see anything in application log

My problem is I cannot see anything in my application log in event viewer. I know events are ther because the number of events listed is given at the top of the sceen. There are no filters to inhibit or screen the viewing and I can see the events in the other logs just fine. This server is an exchange 2000 server and I am having issues with it. Please tell me what to do so that I can at least see what is wrong

The temporary fix;
You might try changing the file properties to "Overwrite as needed"

Then; Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General,
set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete (or move)
the corrupt *.evt file(s) from %windir%\system32\config then set the Event
Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart for effect.

The more permanent fix;
