Can't scan with Lide 20 and XP

Recently I have not been able to scan anything. The CanoScan Toolbox
reports that the Twain driver isn't responding. Adobe reports
similarly. I've use deldrv to delete the driver and reinstalled the
ones from the website to no avail. I know Still Image Service has to
be enabled, but I don't have it listed in the services snap-in (I
can't remember if it was there before). Is Windows Image Aquisition
service performing the same function in XP (its started in case you
were wondering).

Also, I've run the scanner self-diagnosis in Control Panel -> Scanners
and Cameras -> Lide 20 -> General -> Test Scanner or Camera and it
reports that it's fine (the scanner scanning bulb thingy moves so that
means it's responding to the command from XP). However, none of my
software is able to scan.

Well, you can manually start Stimon (Still Image Device Monitor) to see
if that's the prob?

What should happen when I start Stimon? Because nothing does.

Nothing. It just runs in the background.
You should see it in running processes.
On my Win98 system, is just shows as "Stimon".
But without it running, neither my HP or Umax flatbeds (one SCSI, one
USB), or my Nikon film scanner (SCSI) will work.

I was just suggesting, since you mentioned it, that you could start it
manually, then see if your scanning interface works then.
