Can't Save Movie but Could I With The Vista Version?

I have a very large project I completed. About 800 jpg pictures, each with a
transition. Each picture is set to play for 2.5 seconds with a transition of
..5 seconds. The entire show is about 40 minutes and the entire show is set
to music.

Of course, it won't save the movie. I want to save to DVD and first it
saves to the PC but it won't even start to save. Eventually after no
progress the error box comes up.

My PC is brand new, 2 Gb of memory, 250 Gb hard drive, Pentium D 915 2.8GHz
(Dual-Core) processor with Intel VII.

I have a new lap top I bought as a gift and it has VISTA. I'm wondering if
the Vista version of Movie Maker would handle this where XP doesn't? If so,
how would I transfer from one PC to the other?

If that's not a possiblity, I guess I have no other choice than to split the
project? Thanks!

I've run into two projects that wouln't save in XP due to the complexity,
and in both cases moving them to Vista resulted in them saving fine because
of it's enhanced management of memory. One was a Photo Story and the other a
Movie Maker project

You need to move the soure files to the Vista system and maybe have them in
identical subfolder locations...

And 3rd party or custom transitions, effects and title animations need to be
re-applied in Vista as the ones developed for XP won't work. See the notes
on my website's Vista > Movie Maker pages.

Thanks for the response. Do you think that there's any hope of saving in XP
with the set up I have on this PC if I tweak the virtual memory settings or
any other changes you'd recommend?

I don't think Movie Maker can effectively use any more than 2 GB of memory,
so you're at that level without getting into your virtual memory. Closing
down other running apps and processes is the best you can do.

will it save to one of the 3 Pocket PC choices? They need the least amount
of memory.....

if you can do that, then try DV-AVI is next, as it needs a medium amount of
memory... high quality wmv files need the most.

If you havn't seen my website's Problem Solving > Can't Save a Movie page...
there's more there than you want to read.

Let me just say the difference between the Vista version and the XP is like
night and day. When editing in Vista there were no huge delays when I'd make
a change and the saving to movie worked like a charm. I can't believe there
would be such a difference.

The only problem I really ran into was that somehow the file names weren't
what Movie Maker was looking for. For example, if a file was showing as 1,
it was expecting it to be 1_0001. The _0001 were added in almost every
instance. I used file renaming software to add the _0001 to each file and
then Movie Maker had no problem finding the file on the PC I had transferred
them to.

Thanks PapaJohn for your help! All I can say is the Vista version rocks!

nice going... it's good to see a positive ending to this one. Thanks for the
followup note
