Can't save form/report changes access 2000

I have access 2000 split into front and back end database. I have added few
new forms. I want to add some fields and am not able to do it. I compiled,
repaired, compacted the database. Database stopped responding when I make
changes.

Were you trying to add Fields to Tables in the back-end database, while you
were in the front-end? No, that won't work. You can't change the design of a
linked Table, you have to open the Database in which the Table actually
resides.

If I have misunderstood your question, please clarify.
