Can't run Disk Clean up

When I try to run Disk Cleanup it just stays on 'Scanning: Compress old files'

If you'd rather not mess in your Registry, go to Control Panel; dbl-click
Internet Options. [Should open to] General tab, clk. "Delete Files...."; clk.
the box for "Delete all offline files"; clk. "OK". Wait.......while XP
deletes all Temporary Internet Files.
Empty the Recycle Bin.
Now try DiskCleanup.
