can't remove program

firstly when i start up my pc this error message appears from avg control
centre-language failed,the only option is to click on it and it goes away my
pc then carries on and works ok,now my second problem i've just downloaded a
new anti-virus from norton but it can't be fully installed until i've removed
my avg anti-virus which was a freebie,but when i try to uninstall it an erroe
massage says cannot init language and that's all so how do i fix this problem
and is it connected to the message that appears when i start up....please
help amanda

Is AVG running when you try to uninstall the program?

Go to Start/Run and type: msconfig and press OK. Click the Start Up Tab.
Look for any entries that refer to AVG or Grisoft there and remove the check
mark from these items. Reboot the system.

Now try the uninstall for AVG.
