Can't Record Narration

At Home, I have a Dell 8200 running WinXP Home with Powerpoint 2000. I
can't seem to record any Narrations. When I go to insert a Narration, it
says that it is not receiving anything from the speakers and to go to the
control panel and fix it. I go there, all is working well, and go back. No
dice. Anyone have any ideas?

Try,,, Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume
Control. Under the options menu select Properties. Check the Recording
radio button and then click OK. This gives you access to the Recording
Contol panel. Now adjust your input levels as desired and give it another
try.

hmmm... seems like that's what I did, but I will take another look.

Make certain you click the checkbox to "turn on" your input device.

All done. The mic works fine recording in other apps, including, for
example, Sound Recorder. Just doesn't work in Powerpoint. I also made sure
I installed all updates/patches to no avail. No dice.
