Can't Read DVD Drive

1. I lost my ability to detect or read information on any CD or DVD on my
DVD player/Burner. So I picked up a new dual layered burner. It is detected
in XP and the drive shows up, and even the little disk icon appears when a
disk is loaded. But programs won't run and the drive does not show any
content.

2. This started immediately after I tried to copy a copy protected DVD. This
may be a strange coincidence.

Any suggestions?
