can't reach dns since installing sp3

I have two PCs (one runs XP home; other runs 2000 pro)that
are networked together and sharing a cable internet
connection via a hub. Ever since I installed sp3 on the
2000 computer I have been unable to access [Roger's] DNS
server from that computer alone and can not access the
internet from that computer. I can still access my XP
peer computer via network and the internet works fine on
my XP still (which is how i'm writing this :) ).
DHCP 'appears' to be working fine: ipconfig shows def.
gateway and proper addresses.
My event viewer has two types of errors (only since sp3
installed): dnscache ID 11050 (can't contact dns server)
and dhcp ID 1003, 1007(can't contact dhcp--although
obviously it can, since it's getting a Roger's address and
not an APIPA address).
Ofcourse, I didn't archive my files when installing the
service pack so I can't roll it back. All of MS's
solutions assume that the DNS server is under my control.
Anyway, I've searched for a resolution to this problem and
have tried these suggestions thus far: 1. installed sp4
2. replaced dhcpsnap.dll with a sp2 version. 3. removed
all hotfixes to eliminate potential conflicts

Any more ideas?

PS: I do need sp3 to run office 2003 so hopefully a
solution involves leaving sp3 intact. -sigh-

Solved the problem. The Zone Alarm Firewall I uninstalled
a month ago came back to haunt me. I uninstalled it
(again) and everything's back to normal. Don't ask me why
it decided to crop up after I installed sp3 only a few
days ago, but that's what happened.
