Can't print on home network

I have a desktop running XP with a Canon MP160 hardwired to it. I also have a
laptop running Vista. When I first hooked up my router to the desktop
computer with XP, everything was working fine. I could share files back and
forth between the two computers and I could print over the wireless network.
But for some reason now I can't print. I can't even find the printer through
the add printer thing. Suggestions?

Can you still share files? That's what you first need to ask. If you can
neither print nor share files, then look for a misconfigured or overlooked
personal firewall, or other security component.

Then diagnose the problem, using logs from "browstat status", "ipconfig /all",
"net config server", and "net config workstation", from each computer. Read
this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (Download
browstat, and note how to run a Vista command window!):

Have you run XP's Home Network File and Printer sharing Wizard?
And in the Vista laptop, installed a vista compatible driver for the printer?
And in vista's Network and sharing Centre, added a Network Device; namely
XP"s Canon Printer?

I have run the network set up wizard and I can share files between the 2
computers.
And, I have printer sharing on. As far as I know, I have a driver for the
printer installed on the Vista computer. Does the printer itself have an IP
address? If it does, I don't know how to find it.

SOLUTION:
This is kind of lame but works,
open the security center in control panel and click on other security
settings, TURN OFF 'User Account Control" you should then be able to print.

You are not alone in this, many people are having the same problem. Dell
gave me this fix for my XPS system. So far there is no work around for this
except doing the above. Microsoft needs to fix the problem in Vista. It seems
that even if you give permissions for users to do just about anything it will
not fix the wireless printing problem.
