can't open web archive pages

I have a large number of web pages stored on my hard drive in the form of
web archive files (.mht). After making some system tweaks, I am no longer
able to open them. I can't figure out what it is that I did to cause this
or how to cure it.

Anyway, when I attempt to open one, the "This page cannot be displayed" page
pops up and the address line of IE6 looks like this:

mhtml:file://D:\LuDean's%20Documents\My%20Downloads\Internet%20Apps\BlackHole%20Proxy\Blackhole%20Proxy.mht

When it should look like this:

D:\LuDean's Documents\My Downloads\Internet Apps\BlackHole Proxy\Blackhole
Proxy.mht

Any ideas on how I can cure this? Thanks.

The first form is correct if it is in the IE Address bar, except it might
be more correct to have three slashes after the file: URL prefix.

An alternative method of opening them without an explicit filetype
association would be to try dragging the file icon to the application
window.

Any ideas on how I can cure this? Thanks.

Which OS? If not NT5 try an IE Repair (Ref: KB194177)
If NT5 try KB831429. If XPsp2 try iexplore /rereg

For all OS: Run... regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll
*may* be enough
