can't open saved emails—message indicates unable to read item

I am using Outlook 2000 SR-1. A coworker with Outlook 2007 saved some emails
to our server and when I try to open the emails through windows explorer, I
get a message in Outlook that states "unable to read item".
Please let me know how to resolve this issue so I can open the files.
