Can't open & save the attachment in Window Mail

I am having problems with microsoft mail when i attach excell spreadsheet to an email and send it to myself and my wife she is able to click on icon for spreadsheet and it opens while i click on the icon for the attachment and nothing happens we have gone through the tabs under options and i have checked each box that she has on her email application . still i am unable to open the attachment. i like windows mail but i have downloaded thunderbird and have no problems opening an email with the same spreadsheet. is there a fix for this

Thanks for your feedback.
AVG (like Avast) must be installed using the custom install option,
which then enables you to forego installing the mail checking module.
This mail checking module causes problems with Windows Mail.
