Can't open PDF files

B

Bill F.

I recently upgraded to Adobe V6. I have been running I.E.
explorer 6 and windows 2000 for quite some time. Since
upgrading to adobe V6, I cannot open a pdf file in my
browser window (although I have always been able to
before). While the work around to download the PDF file
and open with Adobe works, it is cumbersome and
inconvenient.

Has anyone been able to open pdf files in an IE explorer
windown using IE v 6 and adobe v6??

Yes, I am having no problem with it, however it is pretty slow. If you have
a slow computer, you might think it will never load. It is slow with my 3.2
gigahertz, Windows XP Pro machine, if that gives you any sort of a marker.
Also, if you have too little RAM, that would be another problem. I have 1
GB, still slow.

There is a program that minimizes the number of plugins that the Acrobat
reader installs at startup. I'm not certain of the name of the program,
something like Acrobat Reader Speedup. I have a copy of it here someplace,
but it would take a while to find it. If you cannot find it, let me know
here with an spam proofed email address and I'll send it to you.

I suggest click on upgrade from your help menu of ADOBE ACROBAT.

Generally, adobe should fix this for you automatically when you
open/click on a pdf file first time from IE6.

Also, Adobe has a user forum here:

http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/[email protected]@.ee6b2f2

Put in "plug for IE6" without quotes in the search box and see what you
get. You might have to register for a username etc. Google is also
another good search engine for such problems.
