installed office 2003, after selecting exchange server instead of pop3 i
can't even access outlook to make changes. It says "your microsoft exchange
server is unavailable". How do i correct this? How do I allow the outlook
to at least open up?

So, are we to assume you don't connect to Exchange? If not, why did you
select Exchange as your transport? Start over with a new profile that uses
the correct transports.

I am having almost the same problem - when I try to open Outlook (2003) the
"Configuring Outlook" box comes up but goes no further. eventually it says
that it is not responding and the a box appears saying "The connection to
Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or
connected to complete this action." What does this mean? I have installed a
home use program of Office Professional Edition and have tried reinstalling
it but that was no help either.
If it is related to the profile - how do you get back in to change the
profile?
Help! This is driving me crazy!

I had this happen to me the other week at work; I'm trying to remember
how I fixed it.

I had a freshly installed copy of Outlook 2003 on my computer (or at
least no preferences in my user account). I launched it, started to do
an Exchange Server install, but was having problems with the server
address, so I aborted the install. When I went to launch it again, I
got into that same loop; I coudln't even get back to the wizard to
install the right Exchange Server!

I *think* I was able to get it launched after I restarted and flushed
the Outlook monitors or anything else that hadn't shut down.

The key is, the symptoms *can* happen with just a misconfigured server
or an aborted first launch where you dont' go all the way through the
wizard.
