can't open MS word docs attached in e-mails

I have been unable to open MS word docs sent to me as attachments in e-mails.
When I click to either save or view the doc, it says my "current security
settings" will not allow me to either view or save the doc. This Dell
Inspiron 6000 lap-top is brand new and came installed with Windows XP and
definitely has MS Word included, as it can be accessed through either "My
Documents" or using the Start Menu, Programs, etc. Does anyone know how I
can change my "security settings" so that I can open these Word Docs being
sent as attachments via e-mail. Thank You so much.

Are you using Outlook as your email application?
If so, check the security settings in Outlook. It could be set to not open
attachements in recieved email.
