Can't open more than 1 browser session IE6

Early this week I noticed that I can't open more than one browser session
from my desktop icons. If I attempt to open a browser when one is already
open nothing happens. The second session does show in the task list however.
If I go to file and then new window in the browser that I am working in, a
second browser will start OK. I can also start other browsers clicking on
links. I also noticed that when shutting the system down the system can not
end IE6 normally, it asks me if I want to end immediately. Around the time
this started to happen I downloaded AceFTP freeware, and installed a new
version of Lotus Notes 6.5. I also was using a downloaded utility from the
weathernetwork to display weather info on my desktop. I uninstalled both
AceFTP and the weathernetwork stuff but there was no change.

Any ideas?

Hi rjcrock :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

How to allow multiple windows

Go to Tools> Internet Options> Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".

How to open Multiple Browser Windows

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You

also..

You may have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows-
something like Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another) pop-up blocker, MyIE2 (or another shell for IE) etc.
You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program.

Hope this helps.

I have tried all of your suggestions except uninstalling and re-installing
IE. The problem still persists. Is there a way to detect pop up blockers?

Solution found! My yahoo toolbar has been the problem.
I went to "View", "Toolbars" and unchecked Yahoo Companion.
Problem solved.

Glad to hear you were able to resolve your problem. Good job!

Thank you very much for posting back and letting us know what worked for
you, and for the benefit of other readers who might have a similar problem.

As an added suggestion......uninstall the Yahoo Companion. It is known to
cause various types of problems. :)
