Can't open folders

Hi, I just bought my laptop and everything was working fine 'til this
afternoon. Now, when I try to open any of my folders like My Documents, My
Computer, or even the Control Panel, everything disappears off the screen
(like it's about to shut down), then it settles down and nothing pops up.
Everything else seems fine save for this, I can even access the folders
through my other programs. But when I click on the desktop shortcuts or the
start panel, nothing. I tried the Start, Run, type: regsvr32 /i shell32
suggestion from another query, but it didn't work, even when I restarted. Any
tips? Thanks!

It appears that the shell crashes everytime when explorer.exe process is launched. Check the event logs to know if there are any events registered (in the Application and System logs) during the time when the folder windows closed without warning.
