Can't open Excel Workbook

K

Ken Ams

When trying to open an excel workbook (excel 2000 Windows
2000), after clicking enable macros (or, if clicking not
to enable macros), I get the message "Excel.exe has
generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will
need to restart the program. An error log is being
reated. OK

I can't get into spreadsheet to change any thing.

Copying the file onto a computer with Windoes NT & Excel
2000 the workbook works OK, but making minor changes then
copying back to the original computer, I still get the
same error message.

Copying the file onto a Windows NT , Excel 97 computer,
the file opens OK. When I "save as" the file to a
slightly different name, then copy it back to the original
machine, the file opens OK.

Has the original file been corrupted?

Sounds like it.

sometimes a corrupt file that still can be opened, can be cured using
this method (Excel 2000 or up):

Open the file
Save-as filetype Webpage
Close the file
Open the html file
Save-as normal Excel workbook.
