can't open excel file directy, have to run excel.exe first

I cannot open my excel file by dbl click directly on my datafile but I have
to run excel.exe file first then I cannot open my datafile to continue my
work. How can I solve this problem. I have been try to delete file type xls
from menu file option but it doesn't work. It still have the same symthom.
Who know how to solve this problem please help me. Thank you very much.

If you right-click on the file, and select properties, what does Opens With:
show?

If it doesn't show Microsoft Office Excel, click the Change... button and
select Excel from the list.
