I have setup a windows xp wired network comprising of 24 computers on 3 floors.
Each floor has a d link switch and connected to each other by a cross over
cable. The workgroup name of all desktops is the same and have given the ip
address starting from 192.168.0.x. The desktops of the ground floor can see
other but when i ping a computer on the 1st or 2 nd floor, i get the message
saying "request time out".what could be the problem? There is no server at
the moment.

Could it be that you've used crossover cables? Try ordinary network cables
and see if that works.

yeah i'm thinking thats the problem too. But if the switch is auto-sensing
it won't matter.
