Can't network XP home laptop with XP Pro PC

I have WIndows XP Home on a notebook and XP Pro on my desktop. Both
have SP1 and latest updates. Wanted to network the two using a
4-port 10/100 mbps router. Reasonable sure I have the router
configured properly, because...

I am able to get on the internet on both computers via the broadband
connection and check email, as well. Pinging the router from the
notebook and the desktop results in a good connection. 4 packets
sent, 4 packets rcvd, 0 ms xmsn time...etc... Cannot ping notebook
from the desktop, and vice versa.

Attempts at setting up the network on the desktop, using the network
wizard, results in an error message which reads "spoolsv.exe. error
0x77f7c32b referenced memory at 0x00000000 could not be read." (not
verbatim but enough to figure out, I hope.)

Computers have different names and unique IP address assigned by the
router. Spent several hours going over and over the settings
according to the instructions and network troubleshooting.

Am able to set up the MSHOME network on the notebook using the
wizard. In My Network Places I can see an entry for, but cannot
access, the desktop computer. I get the canned message that
".<computer> is not accessible, you may not have permission to
access..." ad nauseum.

File spoolsv.exe version (5.1.2600.0 - XPClient 010817-1148) and
size (50 kb) on both computers are the same. Dates are different,
but don't think that's an issue.

Search of the internet indicates the spoolsv.exe file directs
traffic (queue's 'em up) from the computer to the printer. Only
connection I can see is the file and print sharing within the
network setup. I can't see any way of turning it off using the
Network Wizard to get around the glitch.

In my Printer and Faxes folder I have listed an HP 990cse (ink-jet),
Minolta 1250W (laser), pdfFactoryPro and FinePrintpdf (.pdf virtual
printers), a virtual driver for printing checks named Greatland; an
HTML, RTF and Txt drivers, and an MS Office Document Image Driver.

I'm guessing there is something amiss with one of the drivers listed
above. However, I can't uninstall them because I use most of them on
a regular basis and I downloaded several from the internet over the
past couple of years and am not sure where the driver is now
located.

Any assistance I can get in resolving this would be greatly
appreciated

Please reply to news group.

Do you have ICF (the Windows firewall) enabled? If so, that's your
problem. ICF blocks file sharing. That will be fixed in SP2.
