Can't move desktop icons until reboot

I'm running winxp with all the current updates. At times I can't move desktop
icons until I reboot. It is a chronic problem that happens almost everyday.
Auto Arrange and Align to Grid are off.

The only way I can fix the problem is to do a cold reboot then everything is
back to normal. If I do a restart versus a cold boot the problem doesn't
resolve itself.

I have been haveing this issue for over 1 year.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try my Desktop Reset tool. Download it here http://www.ms-mvp.org/

*** Do that and you will have more problems than you started with. ***

Google 'pcbutts1' for the full story on this known distributor of malware
and fake MVP.

Not also that the apparently impressive URL has no connection whatsoever
with Microsoft and links directly to pcbutts1's malware distribution page..

Do you really think this is the problem?

A few minutes ago i OPENED A pdf file with Acrobat 7.0 Professional. I
closed the file and now I can't drag and drop desktop icons. Also sometime
the window I am in grays out, meaning I can't click to close it. I then hit
Alt+CTL+Del and exit out of it. Then I can close the window that greyed out.

Let me know what you think. I appreciate your input.

If your Icon cache is too small, usually because you
have a large amount of icons on your desktop the things
refresh very slowly.

Will it fix your problem, can't say for sure but it's any
test.

OK, I have edited the registry via >> Also TechRepublic for more detail:I set it to 2000 to start per the article.

I'll try it for a few days to see if it helps. I'll let you know one way or
the other.

Again, thanks for your time and expertise.
