Can't make corrections in the "to"-box

Once I have entered an e-mail address in the to-box I cannot any longer
correct mistakes in the box before I send the mail. The only thing I can do
is to right click and clear. The vertical bar (cursor) shows I am in the
to-field, but when I back-space it is in the message field that I back-space.

I realise this is probably some add-in problem, but I have tried to disable
Plaxo and Spam-bully, the only two addins I can disable, but it doesn't help.
I also have Adobe Writer, but that I think I can only uninstall.

Any suggestions?

Once the address is underlined, it is "resolved," and to correct it, you must double-click the entry.

Thank you for your reply. However, I am aware of that. I have been using
Outlook since it came out, and have a fairly good understanding of the
basics. This problem is one that have popped up all of a sudden. Last time it
occurred I got so frustrated I reinstalled Outlook, which corrected the
problem. However, now it has come back, and I would like to know what causes
it, so I can prevent it or at least correct it when it happens again.

More specifically, the problem is when I type in an address, find I have
made a spelling mistake and try to use the backspace, it doesn't backspace in
the To field but down in the message area. I can't backspace no matter if it
is resolved or not. I can click on the field and clear it, and then retype
the correct address.
